England beat Pakistan by 26 runs in Multan to clinch series

Multan, Dec 12 (BNA): England snatched a thrilling 26-run victory over Pakistan in the second Test in Multan on Monday to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Chasing 355 for victory, Pakistan looked in the chase before topping out 328 in the second session on the fourth day of the competition, Reuters reports.

Saud Shakeel scored 94 for them first, while Imam Al-Haq scored 60, but it was not enough in the end.

Selected from the England bowlers, Mark Wood claimed 4-65 as England recorded their first win against Pakistan since 2000-01.

“Things have happened more quickly this week compared to last week,” England captain Ben Stokes said, referring to the team’s victory in their opening match in Rawalpindi.

“Going down to the wire again, (it’s) a good game to be a part of.”

“It was a tricky wicket for slow bowling. We were fortunate that with the slits open our seamers were effective.”

Harry Brook was adjudged man of the match for scoring his only hundreds in the low-scoring match.

“Frankly speaking, we were not up to the first rounds,” said Pakistan captain Babar Azam after the defeat.

“There were a number of soft dismissals and…in the second rounds we fought well but couldn’t finish.”

England will conclude their first Test tour of Pakistan since 2005 with the third and final match kicking off in Karachi on Saturday.
