Tár, Everything Everywhere tie for LA critics’ top award

LOS ANGELES Dec. 12 (BNA): Todd Field’s comedy Everything Everywhere at the Same Time scooped awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

The critics group chose to split the Best Picture award between the two highly acclaimed films. “Tar,” which was also named best movie by the New York Film Critics Circle, cleaned up in other categories as well, the AP reports.

Field won for both direction and screenplay, and Cate Blanchett, who stars as a world-famous conductor, won Best Lead Performance.

The critics, who did not separate the awards by gender, also gave Bill Nighy Best Lead Performance for Ikiru’s new movie, Living.

“Everything is everywhere at once,” the insane metaverse directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert also received an award for Ke Huy Quan, for supporting performer.

The former child star added to his rapidly growing accolades for his lauded comeback performance. The other supporting performer winner was Dolly De Leon from Robin Ostlund’s satire “Triangle of Sorrow”.

Other LAFCA winners include Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio” for Best Animation. “EO” by Jerzy Skolimowski for Best Film in a Language Other than English; and “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” by Laura Poitras for Best Documentary Feature.

The critics will distribute their awards at a ceremony on January 14th. It was previously announced that French director Claire Denis received the Group Career Achievement Award. Last year, the LAFCA awarded Best Film to Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s “Drive My Car.”
