Djokovic eases into semifinals with victory over Rublev

Turin, Nov. 16 (BNA): Five-time champion Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarter-finals of the ATP Finals with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Andrey Rublev on Wednesday.

It took seventh seed Djokovic just 68 minutes to beat Rublev and claim two wins out of two in Turin to advance to his 11th semi-final in 15 matches at the end of the year.

Djokovic aims to equal Roger Federer’s record six titles in the event. His last win came in 2015, according to the Associated Press.

In a serve-dominated first set on a fast indoor court, the first breaking point didn’t come until the final, and when Djokovic scored a comeback down the line to win the opener, Rublev threw his racket in frustration.

Djokovic broke early in the second set and took a 3-0 lead with no room for Rublev to come back. The Russian won by two points in his last two matches as Djokovic broke again and went on to win the match.

Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Players Open. Tsitsipas would later play against Daniil Medvedev, who also lost his opening match in the red group.

Top seed Rafel Nadal was eliminated on Tuesday after his second loss of the tournament, while Casper Ruud booked his place in the semi-finals.

Felix Auger-Aliassime and Taylor Fritz will play each other on Thursday, with the winner set to secure another spot in the Green Group semifinals.
