Deputy Prime Minister visits Bahrain Farmers Market

Manama, Dec. 24 (BNA): Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa directed the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture to offer new lands for agricultural investment and to make them available soon through the government land investment platform. He said that this step comes within the framework of the continuous efforts to ensure sustainable food security and achieve the goals of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed the government’s keenness, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to strengthen partnership with the private sector to stimulate the investment movement and increase local agricultural production.

This came during the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister, today, to the Bahraini Farmers Market affiliated to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture in the Budaiya Botanical Garden. Upon his arrival at the market headquarters, he was greeted mainly by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Secretary General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, and senior officials.

Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa praised the Bahraini farmers’ market initiative, which has reached its tenth year, stressing its success in highlighting local agricultural products and supporting Bahraini farmers. He also referred to the market’s role as a weekly meeting place for Bahraini families. He met with participating farmers and representatives of agricultural companies, appreciating their keenness to preserve agricultural work as a distinctive feature of the Bahraini identity. He also praised the effective partnership with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, which attracted thousands of visitors from Bahrain and abroad.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed the government’s continuous support to Bahraini farmers to help them overcome the challenges they face.

The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister for the visit and for the government’s unlimited support for the agricultural sector. He also announced that the market will continue in the evening period of the holy month of Ramadan, pointing to the expansion of its area to accommodate more participants in its eleventh edition in 2023.
