Cooperation between Bahrain and WTO discussed

Bali, September 26 (BNA) Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaafar Al-Sirafi affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the World Tourism Organization, in a way that contributes to consolidating the tourism infrastructure in light of the ongoing strategies. In support of international efforts aimed at accelerating the recovery of the travel and tourism sector around the world after the COVID-19 pandemic.

This growth will provide more opportunities for international cooperation, employment and economic development, she said.

The Minister made these statements during her meeting here today with the Secretary-General of the World Trade Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili, on the sidelines of her participation in the World Tourism Day, which is currently being held on the island of Bali, Indonesia.

Minister Al-Serafy highlighted the importance of developing a joint framework between the Kingdom and the World Trade Organization to pave the way for exchanging the best experiences and practices related to the tourism industry, especially in terms of sustainability, as well as the use of modern and digital technologies. The two sides agreed to provide practical training for nationals working in the tourism sector in the regional office of the World Trade Organization and its main office in Madrid, Spain.

They also agreed to strengthen joint action in line with the slogan “Rethink Tourism”, which is the theme of this year’s World Tourism Day.
