Chelsea signs Senegal defender Koulibaly from Napoli

London, July 16 (BNA) Chelsea completed the inclusion of central defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Naples on Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

The Premier League club paid a fee said to be 40 million euros ($40 million) for the 31-year-old Senegal international, who arrived at Stamford Bridge after the departures of defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Koulibaly, who has signed a four-year contract, joined his new teammates in Las Vegas for a pre-season tour of the United States.

Coulibaly played eight seasons with the Italian club, in which he participated in 317 matches and scored 14 goals.

He started his career with Metz in France and moved to Belgian club Genk for two seasons before joining Napoli.

Coulibaly will play against his teammate and goalkeeper Edward Mendy. Coulibaly is the captain of Senegal and this year led the team to its first African Cup of Nations title.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boelly described Koulibaly as “one of the best defenders in the world…a great captain and exemplary team player, Kalidou brings a wealth of experience and attributes that will benefit our team and the club as a whole.”
