Chelsea loses 4-1 in Potter’s return to Brighton in EPL

Manama, October 29 (BNA) Graham Potter suffered a painful return to Brighton as his former team beat Chelsea 4-1 on Saturday, with the Blues losing their third consecutive Premier League game.

Potter left Brighton in September to take charge of Chelsea after Thomas Tuchel was sacked and was undefeated in nine games in all competitions, according to the Associated Press.

But he saw his team explode in the first half as the hosts led 3-0 in the first half.

Leandro Trossard continued his strong scoring performance to put Brighton ahead in the fifth minute, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah both scored own goals.

By then, Potter was already facing the “you’re fired in the morning” taunt from Brighton supporters.

Christian Pulisic missed a great opportunity when he hit a long shot for Chelsea in the first half, but Kai Havertz reduced the difference for the visitors shortly after the end of the first half. But Pascal Gross scored a goal for Brighton in injury time.

The impressive result at the bustling Amex Stadium was the Seagus’ first victory under new coach Roberto de Zerbe and their first against Chelsea since 1933.

Potter is back at Brighton with six wins and three draws from his nine matches at Stamford Bridge and is looking to inflict more punishment on a Brighton side who started the day with just two points out of a possible 15 since his departure seven weeks ago.
