Chelsea extends Premier League lead by beating Newcastle

London, October 30 (BNA) Reece James scored a double in the second half to lead Chelsea to a 3-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday, extending the London club’s lead at the top of the English Premier League to three points.

The defender broke the scoring against relegation-threatened Newcastle in the 65th minute. Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross fell to Reece on the right edge of the area and he hit it with his left foot from a narrow angle.

Chelsea began finding pockets of space with Newcastle’s legs fatigued, and when Hudson-Odoi’s violent campaign hit Ciaran Clark, James fired again in the 77th minute, according to the Associated Press.

The visiting team succeeded in their ruthless style three minutes later when Jorginho scored a penalty after goalkeeper Karl Darlo Kai Havertz was fouled.

Second-placed Chelsea helped Liverpool draw 2-2 with Brighton. Newcastle remained last in the Premier League after having drawn their longest winning streak at the start of the 10-game Premier League season, which was set in 1898 and 2018.

Graeme Jones remains temporarily in charge of Newcastle after the new Saudi monarchy ousted Steve Bruce.
