Bob Dylan book on ‘Modern Song’ to come out in November

Washington, March 8 (US): Bob Dylan released a new book this fall, a collection of over 60 articles about songs and the songwriters he loves, from Stephen Foster to Elvis Costello.

The new book, “Philosophy of Modern Song,” is his first release of new material since the popular memoir “Chronicles, Volume One” was published in 2004. “Philosophy of Modern Song” is due for release on November 8, according to the Associated Press.

“It analyzes what he calls the easy rhyme trap, explains how adding a single syllable can reduce a song, and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal,” according to an announcement Tuesday from Simon & Schuster.

“And though they (the essays) are ostensibly about music, they are in fact reflections and meditations on the human condition. In the book there are approximately 150 handpicked photographs as well as a series of dream-like concerts which, taken together, resemble an epic poem.”

The 80-year-old singer-songwriter won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016 and has continued to tour and record, and his latest album, “Rough and Rowdy Ways”, was released in 2020.
