BJA backs HM King’s call to combat hate speech

Manama, May 3 (BNA): The Bahraini Journalists Association praised the message of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3 of each year.

The head of the Jordanian Journalists Syndicate, Issa Al-Shayji, expressed the press community’s pride in His Majesty’s message, praising the national cadres working in the media sector, in appreciation of their contributions and partnerships in national development.

He praised the journalistic achievements in Bahrain with the support of His Majesty the King. He said that democracy and legal guarantees in Bahrain enabled the Fourth Authority to perform its role responsibly and professionally.

Referring to His Majesty the King’s speech, he said that speech and misinformation are the deadliest pests in modern societies, highlighting the royal call for the importance of reaching a global agreement to criminalize all forms of hate speech.

He urged commitment and adherence to the directives of His Majesty the King in developing journalistic and media work, laying the foundations for free, fair and objective discourse, promoting a sense of belonging to the homeland, and protecting the right to access knowledge.
