Bahrain’s Gezahegne breaks 10km road race world record in Geneva

Geneva, October 3 (BNA) Bahrain’s Kalkidan Jezahin won the Giants Geneva 10km race in 29 minutes and 38 seconds on Sunday to beat the women’s 10km world record by five seconds when men are also competing.

The 30-year-old, who won the silver in the 10,000 meters behind Sivan Hassan at the Tokyo Olympics in August, set the mark of 29.43 set by Kenya’s Joycelyn Jepkosgee in 2017, Reuters reports.

Agnes Terup, who last month set a new sprint record at 30.01, finished second with fellow Kenyan Sylvain Chespol in third.

Kenyan half-marathon world record holder Kibiwott Kandie won the men’s race in 26 minutes 51 seconds.
