Manama, September 27 (BNA) October 4-10 marks another start of World Space Week, which is celebrated annually around the world to highlight the contributions of space science and technology to advancing the human condition. This year celebrates “Women in Space”.
Bahrain participates in this global event through the National Space Science Agency [NSSA] Bahrain’s leading team is dedicated to promoting space education and promoting the public interest in space endeavours. A robust array of unique activities and projects have been announced that will wow space enthusiasts and the public at large.
Regarding these events, Ms. Maryam Al Mulla, Head of Resources and Services at NSSA, stated: The National Space Science Agency is keen to spread scientific culture among different groups, and it is making great efforts to urge young people to participate in its activities. Year-round, but Space Week always gets premium attention. This year’s Space Week will cover a variety of activities, most notably the following:
First, the Hackathon Space Applications Challenge is held roughly annually on October 2-3. It will represent NSSA’s official partnership with NASA or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration – the US arm of space science and technology. NSSA has the distinction of being the only regional space agency to join NASA in this challenge.
Second, the Digital Space Professional Awareness Handbook, created as a fun and friendly guide for young people, will be made available on the NSSA website for download by young people and college students. The handbook provides information, insights, and inspiration about space and careers in STEM fields in general.
Third, the publication of the Handbook of Digital Space Activities – a useful tool for teachers to arouse their students’ interest in space. NSSA is reaching out to teachers in schools across Bahrain to encourage them to conduct space-related activities in their classrooms during World Space Week.
Finally, in keeping with this year’s theme, NSSA is partnering with Orbital Space in launching a joint initiative – a virtual conference focused on women in space.
Al Mulla concluded her speech by emphasizing that the NSSA continues its achievements in doing everything in its initiatives, and seizing every opportunity to inspire the next generation of astronauts from this side of the world,
