Manama, October 31 (BNA) Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa chaired the meeting of the Coordination and Follow-up Committee between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations agencies.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of ministries, government agencies, and twenty-one organizations and agencies of the United Nations.
The Undersecretary affirmed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with the support of the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhance cooperation with the United Nations. and its agencies.
The prospects for cooperation and the exchange of experiences to activate the strategic cooperation and sustainable development signed between the two sides for the years (2021-2024) were reviewed.
The Undersecretary affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s interest in continuing its cooperation with United Nations agencies in support of the government’s work programme.
He pointed out that the second national report will be submitted to the high-level political forum of the Economic and Social Council in June, and that the fourth national report will be discussed before the Human Rights Council within the universal periodic review mechanism next November.
For his part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bahrain Khaled Al-Maqwad praised the cooperation between the two sides in light of the Secretary-General’s visions on the “Delivering as One United Nations” initiative.
He pointed out that the United Nations support to combat human trafficking, localize the sustainable development goals, and implement the results of the educational transformation summit at the national level.
The meeting was attended by Yara Reda Faraj, director of the International Relations Department at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, Sheikh Firas bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, and Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture Affairs Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Karim, Assistant Undersecretary for Joint Municipal Services at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Shawqiah Humaidan.
