Arsenal beats PSV, clinches spot in Europa League KO round

London, October 20 (BNA) Arsenal secured a place in the Europa League knockout stage after Granit Xhaka’s second-half goal was enough to beat PSV Eindhoven on Thursday to maintain Arsenal’s perfect record in the competition.

Xhaka’s powerful shot in the 71st minute was the achievement Arsenal sought after failing to convert a number of chances thanks to a combination of missed finishing and a fine save from goalkeeper Walter Benitez.

Arsenal are guaranteed one of the two best places in Group A with a maximum of 12 points from four matches and two games remaining to play. Second-placed Eindhoven has seven points, according to the Associated Press.

The match was originally scheduled to take place last month, but was postponed in the wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, with Arsenal’s Premier League match against Manchester City postponed to make way for this only European match played on Thursday.

Arsenal, who have so far won 13 of 14 matches in all competitions this season, dominated most of the match but struggled to create good chances in the first half. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nkeitia had the best chances but both failed to catch crosses in the penalty area.
