Argentina back on top of FIFA rankings after six-year gap

Zurich, April 6 (BNA): World champions Argentina ousted Brazil and returned to the top of the FIFA rankings on Thursday after a six-year hiatus.


Argentina, who won the World Cup in Qatar last year by defeating France in the final, achieved first place after Lionel Scaloni’s team beat Panama 2-0 and Curaçao 7-0 in friendly matches.


France advanced one place to second after its 4-0 victory over the Netherlands and a 1-0 win in Ireland in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, while Brazil dropped to third place after losing 2-1 away to Morocco in a friendly match.


Belgium remained in fourth place, England ranked fifth, followed by the Netherlands in sixth place, Croatia in seventh place, and Italy in eighth place. Portugal and Spain rounded out the top ten.


The Central African Republic took the top spot in the ranking, jumping 10 places to 122nd.
