Abraham nets 2 as Roma wins 4-1 at title-chasing Atalanta

Milan, December 18 (BNA): Tammy Abraham scored two goals as Roma scored their first victory over a major team with a 4-1 victory over Atalanta in the Italian Serie A on Saturday.

Abraham scored his first goal less than a minute into the game and Nicolo Zaniolo doubled Roma’s lead before Brian Cristante’s goal made it 2-1 at the end of the first half, the Associated Press reported.

Another own goal for Crisenti was disallowed shortly before Chris Smalling’s win in the 72nd minute. Abraham wrapped up an impressive game for Roma ten minutes later.

Roma advanced to fifth place, five points ahead of fourth-placed Napoli, and six points from Atalanta in third. League leaders Inter Milan has six points more than Atalanta.

Juventus was playing Bologna later, before Cagliari’s match against struggling compatriot Udinese.

Roma has not defeated one of the top four teams in the Italian league, having lost to Inter Milan and Milan and a draw against Napoli.

But Jose Mourinho’s side got off to a perfect start as Abraham shrugged off Berat Gemesetti and unevenly put Roma ahead after just 55 seconds.

Roma doubled their lead with another counter-attack in the 27th minute. Zaniolo sent a back-heeled ball to Jordan Veretot and then sped forward before getting it back from the Frenchman and firing into the lower left corner.
