Wales beats Ukraine to end 64-year wait for World Cup return

Cardiff, June 5 (BNA) Gareth Bale led Wales to the World Cup for the first time in 64 years, defeating Ukraine 1-0 to finish last in Europe on Sunday.

The only goal in an emotionally charged and difficult match in the rainy Welsh capital came when Bale fired a free kick in the 34th minute and Andrei Yarmolenko inadvertently headed into his own net.

The Associated Press said Wales will now open its World Cup finals against the United States on November 21 before facing Iran and England.

The Welshman also played their neighbors at Euro 2016 when they lost to England in the group stage, but they went on to reach the semi-finals in their first tournament since the 1958 World Cup.
