Verstappen wins Bahrain season-opener in Red Bull one-two

Manama, March 5 (BNA): Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen today, Sunday, won the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, in one match with his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, as Ferrari suffered pain under the floodlights.

Verstappen’s ride from pole position, with Perez 11.9 seconds behind the checkered flag, was his first win in Bahrain and also the first time the double champion had won the opening race of a campaign.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was running third when he slowed and pulled over 17 laps from the end, shouting “No, no, no! No power” on the team radio.

Then, world champion Fernando Alonso overtook Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari with a wheel-to-wheel stunt 12 laps from the finish to claim the final podium spot for Aston Martin, Reuters reports.
