Urawa secure third Asian title as Carrillo own goal sinks Al Hilal

Tokyo, May 6 (BNA): Urawa Red Diamonds claimed their third AFC Champions League title, as Andre Carrillo’s own goal secured the Japanese team a 1-0 victory over defending champions Al-Hilal, today, Saturday, and a 2-1 aggregate victory. .

Reuters reported that Carrillo’s mistake three minutes into the second half turned the tie in Urawa’s favour, despite Al Hilal dominating for long periods before the Japanese team added the title to the titles it won in 2007 and 2017.

Urawa had the upper hand in the second leg at Saitama Stadium after Shinzo Koroki’s equalizer last Saturday earned his side an away goal in a 1-1 draw in Riyadh.

The Saudis, who missed the suspended Salem Al-Dosari and the injured Salman Al-Farraj, dominated the opening 45 minutes of the second leg, with Alexander Schulz forcing Laurawa to clear Odion Ighalo’s early effort off the line.

Goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa was called on to make saves to deny Brazilian wingers Michael and Carrillo in a nervous opening for the hosts.

But Urawa came closest to breaking the deadlock when Koroki’s volley hit the crossbar as the striker ran unmarked in the box to meet Hiroki Sakai’s cross from the right.

Three minutes into the second half, Urawa took the lead, putting Carrillo into his own net after a Mariusz Hubraten header sent the Al Hilal defense into panic, to the delight of the majority in the crowd of 53,574.

Jose Kante and Keto Yasui came close to scoring the hosts’ second goal only for their efforts to sail away from Abdullah Al-Mayouf’s goal.

Al-Hilal, seeking to win the Asian Cup for the fifth time in a row, was denied the opportunity to enter the match into extra time in the 90th minute, when Nishikawa responded by deflecting Ighahlo’s shot, which was scored by Urawa to preserve its lead.
