Manama, Feb. 21 (BNA): The University of Bahrain will host tomorrow the Nepalese ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Root, winner of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity, in its fifth session (2021-2022), at 10:00 am at 10:00 am. The e-learning center at the Sakhir campus.
Ophthalmologist Professor Moamen Al-Rifi will moderate the session, during which the winner will talk about the new method he invented to treat cataracts.
The Isa Award for Service to Humanity is given to those who work to change the world through their humanitarian initiatives and tirelessly find creative and innovative solutions to humanitarian and social issues in order to improve the conditions of humanity.
Dr. Rowett has also developed a new lens that can be implanted inside the eyeball and can be produced much cheaper than its counterparts.
The inexpensive lens enabled him to perform cataract surgery in less than five minutes, during which he would remove the cataract without stitches through small incisions and replace it with a low-cost artificial lens.
So far, he has succeeded in treating more than 120,000 patients for free without taking any money from his poor patients.
