Dubai, December 8 (BNA): The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Audrey Azoulay and President of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said. He visited the Bahrain National Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai yesterday.
They were received by the President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Commissioner-General of the Bahrain Pavilion.
Azouli and Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed toured the Bahraini National Pavilion, under the title “An Opportunity to Weave Density”, and viewed its unique architectural design and its central space of exhibitions, activities and displays that reflect the richness of Bahrain’s cultural elements.
They also reviewed the general theme of the pavilion and its various sections.
Designed by architect Christian Kerez, the Bahrain National Pavilion is an open and slightly submerged space accessed by a ramp that forms the bridge from outside to inside. The structure of this central space is designed as a rectangular building 24m high with a central and open viewing area of 30m by 30m anchored by 126 steel columns only 11cm thick. In addition to serving as a support mechanism for each other and the roof, the columns elegantly reference principles of connection and density in an exploration of three-dimensional possibilities inspired by the traditional geometric stucco decorations of traditional Bahraini architecture.
This central space includes the main exhibition space, gift shop, and café, all arranged in such a way that it flows freely between the columns as a physical spatial representation of the pavilion’s density-centric theme.
The opening ceremony of the Bahrain National Pavilion focuses on the sea. Created by Bahrain-based textile designer Mahiri Poel, in collaboration with some Bahraini artisans, the exhibition focuses on the deep-rooted history of Bahrain’s textile craft and the beauty of the pearling Banush ships’ sails.
The Bahrain Institute of Pearls and Gemstones (Danat) offers a diverse program that showcases its most important services and gives visitors the opportunity to learn about its latest tools and techniques in examining natural pearls.
