Manama, March 7 (BNA): A senior United Nations official said that Bahrain is among three countries honored to preside over the United Nations General Assembly, a fact that speaks volumes about the leadership’s efforts to empower women.

Chairman of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (CPUNGA) Han Seung-soo commended the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

“His Majesty the King is very kind as we had a very friendly and interactive meeting and His Majesty the King was very generous and I admire his very supportive attitude,” he told the Bahrain News Agency.

“His Majesty the King affirmed all his support for CPUNGA and I am very encouraged by His Majesty’s remarks. His Majesty was very pleased that Bahrain hosted the UN meeting. His Majesty also explained the role that Bahrain plays in relation to the UN. I am very optimistic about the future of Bahrain because it is a unique country in this part of the the world “.

In the Bahrain Declaration issued at the conclusion of the two-day meeting, the UN General Assembly Council of Presidents expressed its sincere gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his hospitality and welcomed his proposal to establish a foundation to support the work of UNCPGA around the world.”

The declaration also expressed its warm appreciation to Sheikha Haya Rashid bint Rashid Al Khalifa, President of the 61st session of the United Nations General Assembly, for hosting its session in Manama.

Han Seung-soo said Sheikha Haya was the third woman to hold the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly.

He said, “The first woman president was appointed in 1953 and now this is the 77th session of the United Nations, which means that the United Nations has produced the 77th president.”

Han Song Soo praised the role of Sheikha Haya and praised Bahrain’s leadership for appointing female diplomats, which prompted a Bahraini woman to assume the position of top diplomat in a global platform such as the United Nations.

He highlighted the importance of the issue of cybersecurity as a focal point in the discussions during the meeting, and emphasized that it is one of the biggest problems facing humanity today.

“With the development of digital technology, cybercrime is becoming more and more a problem. But you know that every country has its own ideas and it is very difficult to unite all countries in dealing with such issues.

Therefore, I thought UNCPGA should take this important initiative by not only discussing it but also by coming up with a solution on how to deal with it collectively. In the end, we would like to have some kind of organization that studies cybersecurity and in this way, we will be able to help humanity deal with this problem.
