Trying to recover, Djokovic and Murray faceoff in Madrid

Madrid, May 4 (BUS): Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray prepare for a clash at the Madrid Open on Thursday, where the winner will secure a place in the quarter-finals and take another step towards recovery.

Djokovic and Murray are far apart in the standings, but both have gone through similar times, trying to regain their best form after a lackluster start to the season.

World-ranked Djokovic is playing only his fourth tournament after he was not allowed to participate in the Australian Open due to his vaccination status. 78th seed Murray, who is trying to return to the top, is chasing a three-game winning streak for the first time since January.

They have not faced each other since Djokovic’s victory in the 2017 Doha final, according to the Associated Press.

Djokovic beat Murray in three sets in the 2016 Madrid final. The Serbian has 25 wins and 11 losses against the Briton.

Murray, who ranked #1 in 2017, had hip surgeries in 2018 and 2019 and dropped to No. 839. He returned to the top 100 in February alone.
