Tropical storm Aere forecast to affect southern parts of South Korea next week

SEOUL, July 1 (BNA) Tropical Storm Erie is likely to affect Jeju Island and other southern parts of South Korea early next week after forming off Japan’s Okinawa, the Meteorological Agency said on Friday.

Erie was moving north-northeast at 13 kph, packing winds of up to 65 kph and a central pressure of 1,002 hectopascals when it formed at sea 760 km off southeast Okinawa at 9 a.m. Friday. , according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

The agency said Jeju Island and areas along the southern coast are expected to be affected by the tropical storm from Monday to Tuesday, according to Yonhap news agency.

Eri may pass over water 260 kilometers south-southwest of Jeju on Monday morning and move east to pass near Busan on Tuesday morning, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KMA).

The southern parts of the country are expected to see heavy rains and strong winds as the tropical storm passes.

The agency added that Erie could change course and a more accurate forecast would be possible Sunday morning.
