Top nuke envoys of South Korea, US, Japan to meet in Tokyo next week

SEOUL, Sept. 2 (BNA) The South Korean Foreign Ministry said Friday that the top nuclear envoys of South Korea, the United States and Japan will hold three-way talks in Tokyo next week on the denuclearization of North Korea and other issues.

Seoul’s chief nuclear negotiator, Kim Joon, will meet his US and Japanese counterparts, Sung Kim and Takehiro Funakoshi, respectively, in the Japanese capital on Wednesday. Yonhap News Agency reported that he will also meet one-on-one with Kim and Funakoshi.

The rallies were arranged amid fears that Pyongyang might engage in provocative actions, such as a nuclear test, as Seoul and Washington ended a major allied maneuver that the reclusive regime criticized as a war rehearsal.
“During the planned consultations, the three plan to exchange their assessments of the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and hold in-depth talks on the issue of North Korea’s denuclearization,” the ministry said in a press release.
The last three countries held a tripartite session in the Indonesian resort island of Bali in July.
