Queen Elizabeth II to skip Highland Games event in Scotland

London, Sept. 2 (US): Queen Elizabeth II will skip the Braemar meet, a popular Highland Games event, as she struggles with turning issues.

The 96-year-old Queen decided earlier to formally appoint Britain’s new prime minister on Tuesday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she is spending her holiday, rather than returning to London for the traditional ceremony at Buckingham Palace, the Associated Press reported.

Her eldest son and heir, Prince Charles, who usually accompanies the king to the gathering, will also be present. British media reported on Friday that the decision was made for the convenience of the king, who since last year has suffered from what the palace describes as “mobility problems”.

Elizabeth has spent most of the past two years at Windsor Castle, west London, where she has taken refuge during the pandemic. She continued to work throughout this period, although almost all of her tasks were carried out, including meetings with ambassadors, health workers and schoolchildren.
