The National Medical Taskforce approves optional second COVID-19 booster shot


Manama, April 7 / BNA /: Based on the latest epidemiological data and after approval by the Government Executive Committee, the National Medical Task Force to Combat Coronavirus (COVID-19) announced today that individuals aged 18 years and over may take an elective COVID-19 booster dose. Periodically every 9 months from the date of the last booster dose.


Starting April 7, individuals who want another booster dose can choose Pfizer-BioNTech or the same vaccine as their previous booster.


The task force stated that the green shield in the BeAware Bahrain app will not change to yellow if eligible individuals do not choose the second or future additional shot.


The task force concluded by emphasizing the importance of the national vaccination campaign in protecting public health. The working group indicated that the updated vaccination protocols are in line with the steps taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to address the epidemic.
