Tenth Bahraini Farmers’ Market opens

Manama, Dec. 10 (BNA): Within the framework of the Kingdom’s celebrations of its national holidays, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak inaugurated today the tenth edition of the Bahraini Farmers Market, under the title “Our Harvest… Bahraini”.

Minister of Tourism Fatima bin Jaafar Al-Sairafi, Secretary General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NAID), Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Acting CEO of the Labor Fund (Tamkeen), Maha Movies, Governor of the North, Ali Al Khalifa. Officials and representatives of the sponsors, Asfour, attended the opening ceremony of the market, which is held annually in the Budaiya Botanical Garden.

The blessed minister affirmed that holding the farmers’ market reflects the great interest in municipal and agricultural affairs, based on the directives of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in providing various types of support to the agricultural sector.

He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing qualitative initiatives aimed at developing the agricultural sector and achieving food security for the Kingdom. In this regard, he expressed his thanks to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women and Chair of the Advisory Council Nyad, for her continued support of the Bahrain Farmers Market.

He praised the support that the farmers’ market enjoys from public and private institutions, which reflects the importance of the role of community partnership in supporting such events that enhance the economic development of the Kingdom.

He highlighted the increasing success of the market and its ability to attract not only citizens and residents, but also visitors from brotherly and friendly countries.

The minister indicated that last year the market attracted more than 70,000 visitors, according to the statistics of the organizing committee, adding that 83 Bahraini products were displayed, of which 265 tons were sold.

31 farmers, four agricultural companies, five nurseries, four apiaries, four activities specializing in dates, and 20 productive families are participating in the tenth edition of the Farmers’ Market, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development.

The organizing committee created a corner for children through the presence of the character “Saeed”, which the ministry launched on its account (Moon Kids). The Ministry of Tourism also participates in a special corner that hosts various activities.

On this occasion, the Secretary-General of the Nayad, Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, said: “We are pleased with the return of the Bahraini Farmers Market to host thousands of visitors from Bahrainis, residents and visitors to the Kingdom in the Budaiya Botanical Garden, which is one of the historical gardens in Bahrain, which was reopened during the reign of His Majesty the King under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women and Chair of the Advisory Council of Al Nayed. “

She affirmed that Niyad’s unwavering support for the Bahraini farmers’ market is in line with her keenness to create appropriate conditions for the agricultural sector to flourish, especially with regard to providing a platform for Bahraini farmers to sell their products.

She indicated that the market provided a wide customer base for Bahraini farmers, and many farmers to diversify their products and introduce new types of products that are required locally.
