Swiss artist sculpts sprawling model castle on dried river bank

Sobraz, Switzerland Aug. 14 (BUS): Swiss artist Francois Monthaux’s annual project to build terracotta sculptures on the banks of the Tullior River in Switzerland extended to a captivating castle complex this year as the drought of Europe allowed him to expand his dream world.

Monthox began this year’s project with modest ambitions six weeks ago, but drought has allowed it to build an entire city of towers, Reuters reports.

Now he has mixed feelings: he wants it to rain, but is sad at the thought of his dream world disappearing when it does.

“I imagine the lives of people who walk under the arches, under the bridge, look at the monuments, look at the city,” said Munthuks, who works in mud from the dry bed of the Tullior River in the canton of Vaud in western Switzerland. .

He added, “So, I inserted a bubble, and I became a dreamer…I see their world forming under my fingers.”

Monthox, a nature lover, says he is sad to see the plants dying around him and it “would be a disaster” if the ongoing drought means he can continue the project for years. At the same time, he knew from the start that the matter was temporary.

“Of course, I am a little sad,” he said, “because I am sad that the form I have given to this matter is going to disappear.”

Visitors to the statue enjoy the sculpture while it continues.

“I don’t have words to say how I feel, because…it’s just a wonderful thing,” said Vaud resident Heidi Botti.
