Supreme Council for Development of Education and Training holds 46th meeting

Manama, October 13 (BNA) The Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Development of Education and Training, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, praised the efforts of education and training in appreciation of their essential role in achieving Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and its objectives to be an educational and training center.

The government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, spares no effort in following up on the implementation of all projects, initiatives and programs that will develop education and training and continue to invest in Bahraini competencies. , he added.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum chairs the forty-sixth meeting of the Supreme Council for the Development of Education and Training.

The council reviewed the latest developments in the implementation of education and training programs included in the unified framework of government priorities, noting that 60% of them have been achieved, and two main goals have been achieved in infrastructure development and e-learning.

The Council reviewed the latest developments in the restructuring of the Ministry of Education, which includes 17 initiatives to improve the Ministry’s operations and education outputs, and sociology indicated that the completion rate reached 83%.

The council discussed the proposed national curricula and national standards that harmonize the educational and teaching process with the requirements of the labor market and make it periodically compatible with the changes in the required job skills.

The council reviewed the draft report of the Education and Training Quality Authority for the year 2021, and a proposal to set a date for the review of the authority to obtain the recognition of the World Federation of Medical Education.

He also discussed the results of the review of three academic programs in higher education institutions and the decisions to include national qualifications in the National Qualifications Framework.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and the Council congratulated Dr. Jawaher Shaheen Al Mudhaki on her appointment by His Majesty the King, and praised her efforts during her presidency of the Education and Training Quality Authority and the authority’s role in developing education and training.

The Council also thanked Prof. Dr. Riyad Hamzah for his efforts during his presidency of the University of Bahrain and the success he achieved during his tenure, wishing him success.

The Secretary General of the Higher Education Council Dr. Sheikha Rana bint Isa Al Khalifa made proposals to review higher education policies and legislation to expand its scope and provide options for individuals to move between academic, technical and applied fields and the labor market, and expand lifelong learning and employability.

Dr. Sheikha Rana also made a proposal to establish a national portal for admission to higher education institutions that would develop mechanisms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, standardize procedures, reduce costs for students in the short term, and align higher education sector financing. With the national strategy and long-term labor market needs. It also provided a detailed proposal for the implementation and time frame of the proposed initiatives.

The Dean of Bahrain Teachers College, Dr. Ted Burinton, briefed the Board on the implementation of the Bahrain Teachers College’s expansion plan to achieve the government’s goals to enable it to meet 80% of the Ministry of Education’s teacher needs by 2030.

Burnton also briefed the Council on the college’s preparations for the new academic year, and indicated that a large number of the activities and programs of the current operational plan had been completed.
