Students take up challenge in National Youth Cyber Defense Competition

Manama, Jan. 31 (BNA) Bahrain School students have participated in the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition that puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly recruited IT professionals tasked with managing a small business network.

Through a series of online competition rounds, teams encounter an array of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity weaknesses and strengthening the system while maintaining critical services. The competition includes multiple rounds of participation.

“We were the only team in the Middle East that participated and gained invaluable experience,” said Joshua Crest, the teacher who oversaw the school’s participation.

The best teams earn all-expenses-paid trips to Maryland for the National Finals competition in April where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
