Students celebrate Gargaoon, International Day Iftar

Manama, April 12 (BNA): The Bahrain School hosted the International Iftar Day and the Jargon gathering, in line with its commitment to celebrate diversity and local traditions.

Qaraoon is a traditional celebration in the middle of Ramadan in which children dress in authentic Bahraini clothes and collect sweets and treats from family and neighbours. Songs marking the occasion, drum beats and a folkloric dance called Frieza are part of the celebration.

At the Bahrain School, Arabic language students and their teachers, dressed in traditional clothes, distributed Gargaoon bags to the students at the end of the day during their study period.

Gargaoon songs were played as they moved from class to class handing out sacks.

Keeping up with its cultural traditions, Bahrain School also held a fun-filled International Day/Iftar. Two aspiring IB CAS students, Zoe Cochran and Veronica Shaukry, led the event for their final CAS project.

There were many booths representing countries around the world, and tastings complemented the experience. Live music, an open soccer field and perfect weather made for an unforgettable evening.

The IB CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service, and is an essential counterbalance to the academic rigor of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It aims to motivate students to show initiative and perseverance, and to develop collaborative problem-solving skills.
