Strike over pay at Berlin airport grounds all flights -operator

Berlin, Jan. 25 (BNA): Staff at Berlin’s German airport, Bier, went on strike on Wednesday to press their wage demands, and the airport’s operator said all scheduled passenger flights had been canceled as a result.

About 300 takeoffs and landings carrying fewer than 35,000 passengers were originally scheduled for Wednesday, Reuters reports.

The Verdi union has called on airport employees in ground services, aviation security and the airport company to strike in the dispute over wages. She described a one-day strike over what she said was insufficient progress in wage talks.
