Speaker, Municipalities Minister inspect temporary location of Riffa Central Market

Manama, September 17 (BNA) Parliament Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal and Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak inspected a number of development projects in Riffa and reviewed the final preparations for the temporary site. Riffa Central Market where the current market will witness a comprehensive renovation soon to meet the needs of citizens.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives affirmed the continuation of the implementation of vital service projects within the framework of the comprehensive development process of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. She stressed the keenness to achieve the aspirations of citizens, noting the cooperation between the legislative authority and the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

For his part, the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture said that in line with the government’s directives to provide the best services to citizens and residents, the ministry is keen that the renewal of markets is compatible with their specificities. He pointed out that the project to tighten the Riffa Central Market aims to develop the current building of the market on an area of ​​2,323 square meters, including the vegetable and fruit market, the fish and meat market, and the supply markets.

The minister appreciated the follow-up and support of the Speaker of the House of Representatives for this project, noting that a temporary site had been prepared for the vendors as a transitional period until the completion of the development work.

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture for Municipal Affairs, Eng. Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said that the alternative location of the market, which covers an area of ​​1,200 square meters, was carefully selected by the ministry to ensure its proximity to the original site. He added that the alternative market will include the same number of stalls until the renovation work is completed.
