Man City’s Haaland wins Premier League Player of the Month for August

London, Sep 17 (BUS): Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August after scoring nine goals in five matches in a brilliant start to his career in England.

Reuters reported that Haaland, 22, scored a brace on his debut in the league against West Ham United and scored a goal at Newcastle United before scoring a hat-trick in a row against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest as City won four of their first five games.

The Norwegian, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund, beat Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard and Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic among others to win the award.

According to Obta, only former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez scored more goals in a single month in the Premier League, with 10 goals in December 2013.

“I’m delighted to win this award for the first time – it’s been a great start to the season and I’m grateful to everyone who voted,” Haaland said in a statement.

“We all wanted to start this season, so winning four out of five matches was a great start for us in the most challenging competition in the world. I’m glad I played my part by scoring goals.

“Hopefully I can continue to support the team… and continue to our strong start to the season.”

City is second in the league standings after six games with 14 points, one point behind leaders Arsenal. They will travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
