South Korea receives U.N. investment promotion award

Invest Korea, the country’s investment promotion unit under the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), has been selected to win the 2021 Investment Promotion Awards by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), along with Costa Rica, the South Korean news agency reported. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said in a press release: “Invest Korea has been honored for extensive coverage of the health sector on its virtual outreach channels, including online tools, guides and sector reports, information on investment opportunities, incentives and databases. of potential partners. .

Kotra officials said the agency attracted $18.21 billion in foreign investment in healthcare and other sectors during the first nine months of this year in the midst of the novel coronavirus by launching proactive online promotions.

This is the first time since 2007 that KOTRA or its affiliated agencies have been awarded the UN award.

South Korea, Costa Rica and the Netherlands “provide the best examples” in efforts to build resilience and preparedness for the health crisis as the world attempts to recover from COVID-19 and its economic fallout, UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebecca Greenspan said. She said.
