MEXICO CITY, Oct. 23 (BUS): Hurricane Roslin hit a sparsely populated area of Mexico’s Pacific coast between the resorts of Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan Sunday morning, then retreated to tropical storm strength and quickly moved inland. By Sunday morning, Rosslyn’s winds were blowing at 70 mph (110 km/h), down from their 130 mph peak, according to the Associated Press.
The US National Hurricane Center said Rosslyn was about 55 miles (90 km) southeast of the northern city of Durango. The hurricane was moving from north to northeast at 20 mph (31 km/h) and was expected to lose strength further as it moved inland. The center expects Roslin to become a tropical depression before reaching Texas.
While he didn’t get a direct hit, Roslin brought torrential rain and high waves to Puerto Vallarta, where ocean waves hit the seaside park. Roslin came ashore in Nayarit, roughly the same area where Hurricane Orlin made landfall on October 3.
