Social justice cornerstone of Bahrain’s comprehensive development process: Labour Minister

Geneva, June 8 (BNA): Minister of Labor and Social Development Jamil bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, affirmed that establishing social justice, improving living conditions, and promoting dialogue is an integral part. Bahrain’s comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The minister’s remarks came during his speech before the 111th session of the International Labor Conference, which was held in Switzerland on June 5-16.

He pointed out that, based on the lofty principles of social justice, the Bahraini government has launched a series of studied policies and programs to support low-income segments, such as the unemployment insurance system, the wage support system, and subsidies. of goods and services, in addition to providing financial assistance to needy groups.

He said Bahrain was proud of its achievements in advancing social protection, as well as its comprehensive initiatives to combat discrimination in employment, forced labor and human trafficking.

He also expressed Bahrain’s pride in its experience in promoting trade union freedoms and enhancing cooperation between social partners in accordance with the principles of constructive dialogue aimed at protecting workers’ rights and gains without prejudice to the interests of employers.

He highlighted Bahrain’s efforts to protect the labor market during the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, noting its success in providing health, financial and social support to its subsidiaries, as well as in preventing layoffs and job losses in exceptional circumstances.

The minister praised the report of Gilbert Hongbo, Director-General of the International Labor Organization, for focusing on the importance of social justice and preserving human rights, as well as strengthening education, health care and social security systems.
