Serving member of UK armed forces charged under Officials Secrets Act

London, April 22 (BNA): The British Metropolitan Police said, on Saturday, that a member of the British armed forces has been charged with offenses under the Official Secrets Act, following an investigation by the counter-terrorism police.

The Met said Thomas Newsom, 36, was initially arrested on April 18 and charged late Friday. Reuters reported that he would appear at Westminster Magistrates Court later on Saturday.

Newsom was charged with offenses under the Official Secrets Act of 1989, which covers the unauthorized disclosure of information by government employees.
