Second phase of “Green Forever” set to be launched

Manama, June 7 (BNA): Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak visited today the Tubli Nursery to plant mangroves.

He inspects preparations for planting to launch the second phase of the (Forever Green) afforestation plan, which is to plant 230,000 trees this year.

In a statement today, he indicated that the ministry was able to plant 230,000 mangrove seedlings during the past five months.

He praised the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to double the number of mangrove trees to be planted this year to 460,000 trees from the initial target of 230,000 mangrove trees.

The afforestation campaign comes within Bahrain’s commitment at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) to increase mangroves fourfold until 2035.

“We started preparing the site, which is the incubator through which the mangrove seedlings are produced,” the minister said, noting that 230,000 seedlings will be produced next August, to be planted in various reserves throughout Bahrain.

He stressed the role of the private sector in supporting afforestation projects and doubling the number of trees, indicating that the ministry was able to establish partnerships to achieve these goals with various sectors.

He pointed out that 100,000 seedlings were recently planted, in partnership with the Royal Guard, in the Mutula area, under the auspices of His Highness Lieutenant General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Adviser and Secretary General of the Supreme Defense Council. of the Royal Guard.
