Scholz and Macron reaffirm partnership on chancellor’s first visit

Paris, December 10 (BNA) German Chancellor Olaf Schultz and French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed today, Friday, the partnership between the two countries, while Schulz is visiting Paris for the first time since taking office.

“It’s about how to make Europe strong and European sovereignty in all its dimensions. It’s about economic, security and foreign policy issues,” Schultz was quoted by German news agency dpa as saying during his meeting with Macron at the Elysee Palace.

“It is important that we act in the same direction and work together,” Schultz said. Which is why this was not just a friendly visit, but a visit that promptly and in a very concrete manner addressed all the issues that will be at stake in the near future.

Macron replied: “We have shown the desire to work together.” Close cooperation should continue as it did with Schulz’s predecessor, Angela Merkel.

The two leaders discussed European cooperation, climate change, digitalization and migration.

After his visit to Paris, Schulze was to travel to Brussels to introduce himself to the European Union and NATO. As finance minister for the past four years in Merkel’s broad coalition, Schulz is a well-known figure at EU headquarters.
