Samuels powers Villanova over Michigan 63-55 in Sweet 16

WASHINGTON, March 25 (BUS): The Villanova Wildcats have secured second place for themselves in the Alamo, winning a national championship in 2018 as they work their way up another.

Jermaine Samuels scored 22 points, Collin Gillespie scored 12 and made 3 late headers, Villanova dominated Michigan in a 63-55 Sweet 16 victory Thursday night in the NCAA Championship.

Samuels and Gillespie have been new students to this title a few years ago. Now, they are longtime veterans and freshmen who are still around due to the extra season of eligibility due to the pandemic, the AP reports.

It’s also the driving force for second-seeded Villanova (28-7), who made it to the Southern District final. They will play No. 5 seed Houston (32-5), who beat top seed Arizona 72-60. It’s the deepest run of the tournament for Vilanova since coach Jay Wright won his second title in 2018 – against Michigan.
