Rooney calls for patience with new Man United manager Ten Hag

Manchester, April 22 (BNA) Wayne Rooney said that new Manchester United coach Eric Ten Hag will need some time from the board of directors and patience from the fans if he is to successfully re-form his team.

United have appointed Ajax Amsterdam coach Ten Hag as their new coach to succeed interim coach Ralf Rangnick from the end of this season, with the 52-year-old signing a three-year contract, Reuters reported.

Tin Hag is the fifth permanent manager appointed by United since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, and will be tasked with reviving the fortunes of Old Trafford, who are sixth in the Premier League with five games remaining.

“It’s a huge job,” said Rooney, the former United striker who manages Derby County.

“I think it’s good to see now that they’ve appointed a manager in that it looks like they’re going to give him some time, from what I’ve seen.

“I’m sure they will let him rebuild the team because that has to happen. But I think the fans have to be a little patient with that because it won’t change overnight or as quickly as you want it to.”

United have not won a title since winning the Europa League in 2017 and winning the Premier League for the last time under Ferguson in the 2012-13 season.

“(The fans) have to be a little bit patient as long as they see the progress and the players work and play for the shirt, and hopefully we’ll look at trying to challenge for the title in the next three years,” Rooney added.
