Milan, April 22 (BNA) The Chinese market regulator said in a statement on Friday that luxury sports car maker Ferrari will recall 2,222 cars in China due to a possible malfunction in the braking systems.
The State Administration for Market Regulation said the recall includes 458 Italia, 458 Speciale, 458 Speciale A, 458 Spider, 488 GTB and 488 Spider models, which are for cars imported between March 2010 and March 2019.
According to Reuters, the draw will begin on May 30.
A source close to the matter said the recall is part of a broader action Ferrari is doing globally over the same issue for models produced during the period, which also saw the automaker agree to a recall in the United States in November last year.
In the auto industry, recalls are usually determined and timed by each individual national authority after problems arise or are reported by the builder.
Ferrari said that after investigating the matter with its supplier Bosch (ROBG.UL), they determined the cause of the damaged vehicles’ faulty brake reservoir fluid cap that may not be venting properly, creating a vacuum inside the brake fluid reservoir.
“The safety and well-being of our customers is our priority,” Ferrari said. “We operate under strict safety and security guidelines to ensure that the correct systems and procedures are in place at all times.”
Based on data available on the company’s website, which dates back to 2014 when it was still part of the Fiat group, Ferrari sold a total of about 5,400 cars in the “Greater China” region, which includes Hong Kong and Taiwan, between 2014 and last year. .
By 1145 GMT, Ferrari’s Milan-listed shares were down 3.1%, less than the 1.7% decline in Italy’s leading stock index (.FTMIB).
