Representatives Council endorses consensual 4-year Government Programme

Manama, Jan. 12 (BNA): Today, the House of Representatives held an extraordinary meeting, in which it approved the consensus version of the government action plan 2023-2026.

On this occasion, the Speaker of Parliament, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, expressed his deepest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for approving the government program, praising the prominent role played by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Muslim Speaker of Parliament also praised the constructive cooperation of the government team led by Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, who responded positively to the statements and visions of the Parliament.

He added that approving the government’s program is in line with the provisions of the constitution, especially the constitutional amendments of 2012, which granted the House of Representatives broad powers to study and approve the government’s action plan.

He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the parliamentary committee tasked with studying the government’s programme, the general secretariat, the press and the media for their efforts to reach consensus on the government’s plan.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, extended his sincere congratulations to His Majesty the King and His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for approving the government’s action plan.

He also conveyed, in his speech before the extraordinary meeting of the House of Representatives, the thanks and appreciation of His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives after the approval of the government program.

He stressed that the improvement of the quartet government’s action plan embodies Parliament’s confidence in it, indicating that all ministries and government departments will begin implementing the program’s priorities, policies and initiatives immediately, in line with the visions of His Majesty the King and His Highness. The Deputy Prime Minister indicated that the amended version of the government program, which was agreed upon between the executive and legislative authorities, includes a set of priorities, foremost of which is improving the standard of living of citizens in a manner that preserves their gains.

He indicated that other priorities include justice, security and stability, as well as economic recovery and sustainable development, in addition to high-quality and competitive government services.

He added that the priorities were set after reaching a consensus on six axes, which are raising the standard of living, the sovereign and legislative issue, infrastructure and the environment, economic recovery and financial sustainability, community services, government performance, and digital transformation, indicating that it is through the policies and initiatives included in the government programme.
