Real Madrid recover to thrash Real Sociedad 4-1

Madrid, March 6 (BNA) Real Madrid fought to achieve a landslide 4-1 victory over its guest Real Sociedad that consolidated its lead at the top of the League to eight points, ahead of second-placed Seville on Saturday.

Real dominated the match, but they fell back after ten minutes from a penalty kick by Mikel Oyarzabal after Dani Carvajal missed David Silva.

Youngster Eduardo Camavinga came to the rescue five minutes before the break, hitting the equalizer from 25 meters with his unstoppable left foot that hit the post.

Luka Modric went up at the Santiago Bernabeu, which almost ran out, and then put the hosts ahead with another long-range shot that passed into the top corner of Alex Remiro’s goal.

Karim Benzema, who scored two goals scored by the VAR for offside, finally scored in the 76th minute from a penalty kick after the VAR spotted a foul on Vinicius Junior.

Substitute Marco Asensio sealed the win with a close shot three minutes later, Reuters reported.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg match at home to Paris Saint-Germain, in which Real Madrid are 1-0 down, Los Blancos left their questionable recent performances behind to set up a bid against sixth-placed Real Sociedad.

The Basques, who were leading the first quarter of the season before being jumped by Real Madrid, have 44 points from 27 games and are still vying for fourth place.

The La Liga leaders took advantage of Sevilla’s disappointing 0-0 draw with lowly Alaves on Friday, and their tally rose to 63 points against 55 of their closest rival.

“This is the strength we need on Wednesday,” coach Carlo Ancelotti told a news conference.

“We can repeat today’s match against Paris Saint-Germain. It is a performance that inspires us and gives us a lot of energy and confidence to fight back from the 1-0 loss we suffered in the first leg in Paris.”

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who will miss the Paris Saint-Germain match due to the suspension, believes his home advantage will be the key to reaching the quarter-finals.

“We showed today that we can fight and win against a great opponent. We will need to do it again on Wednesday and with fans by our side in our stadium, anything is possible,” he told reporters.
