Real Madrid fights back for 3-1 win over Espanyol

Madrid, March 11 (BNA): Vinicius Junior ignited Real Madrid’s 3-1 comeback against Espanyol in the Spanish League on Saturday, to keep Barcelona within reach in the title race.

Joselo Mato put Espanyol ahead at the Santiago Bernabéu in the eighth minute. But Vinicius equalized in the 22nd minute before Eder Militao headed Real Madrid ahead forever in the 39th minute.

Substitute Marco Asensio added a third goal in stoppage time, as Real Madrid ended a run of three matches without a win between the league and the Copa del Rey.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side cut Barcelona’s lead to six points before leaders visit Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, reports the Associated Press.

Karim Benzema missed the match as he rested to recover from an ankle problem. Before the match, Ancelotti said he expected his striker to be ready to face Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday, with Real Madrid advancing 5-2 from the first leg of the round of 16.

Then Real Madrid will visit Barcelona on March 19 in a “El Clasico” that is likely to have a huge impact in the title struggle.
