Real Madrid and Barcelona to meet in Copa del Rey semifinals

Madrid, January 30 (BNA): Real Madrid will get a chance to take revenge on Barcelona when the Spanish teams meet in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

The rivals went head-to-head in Monday’s draw, which also set up the semi-final match between Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna, the Associated Press reports.

Madrid lost the Spanish Super Cup final to Barcelona 3-1 in Saudi Arabia on January 15, the same result in which it beat the Catalan club in its first “El Clasico” of the season in La Liga.

Barcelona also got the best of Madrid the last time they met in the Copa del Rey, advancing to the 2019 semi-finals with a 3-0 victory in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid will host the first leg this time and the second at Camp Nou.

The first leg of the semi-finals this season was scheduled to take place next week, but it will have to be scheduled for about a month from now because Real Madrid will participate in the Club World Cup in Morocco.

Barcelona is the club with the most Copa del Rey titles, with 31, eight more than Athletic. Madrid has 19, but none since 2014, while Osasuna’s best result was runner-up in 2005, when they lost in the final to Real Betis.

Each round to date has been played in single matches. Real Madrid advanced to the last four cities, its rival Atletico Madrid, while Barcelona eliminated Real Sociedad.
