Rafael Nadal reaches 2nd round

Paris, May 23 / BNA /: Rafael Nadal and all his aches and pains have reached the second round of the French Open, according to the Associated Press.

The 13-time Roland Garros champion beat Jordan Thompson 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round at Court Philippe Chatrier.

Nadal won his 21st men’s Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, but recently returned from a rib injury that has troubled him since March.

He also suffers from chronic pain in his left foot. That put him out of Wimbledon and last year’s US Open, and upset him again during the loss on clay in Rome this month.

Next time, Nadal will meet Corentin Moutier, a famous French player who won the 2015 French Open Stan Wawrinka 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-3.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka lost in the first round of the French Open to local wild card entry Corentin Moutet.

Motte beat the 2015 French Open champion 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-3 at Court Suzanne Lenglin.

Wawrinka played only four matches at the tour level this season before the French Open, winning two and losing two. He missed most of last season after undergoing surgery on his left foot.

The 37-year-old Swiss also won the Australian Open in 2014 and the US Open in 2016.
