PSG’s Neymar back in squad for Marseille trip

Paris, October 24 (BNA): Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar has recovered from a thigh injury and could be reunited with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in an attack against his arch-rival Olympique Marseille on Sunday.

The Brazilian striker, who missed Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-2 home win in the Champions League on Tuesday, did not appear in the medical bulletin on Saturday and is expected to be in the squad, Reuters reported.

Defender Sergio Ramos, who has not played since joining from Real Madrid during the recent season with a calf problem, is still training alone while Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes misses the match with a thigh injury.

“Neymar is ready for the match,” coach Mauricio Pochettino said on Saturday.

Paris Saint-Germain have won eight of their last 10 matches against OM and will consider Marseille a pride, who are looking forward to their first win at the velodrome against the capital’s team in 10 years.

“I played the Clásico as a player and as a coach. Everyone has their own story but it’s like a derby, it’s not just about the three points,” Pochettino said.

“The PSG vs OM match is not just like any other game. It’s about pride and emotions, for us and the fans.”

Argentine winger Angel Di Maria, who missed the Leipzig match due to suspension, also returned to the squad along with Messi and Mbappe.

The France striker has been in brilliance and will be looking to join Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the fourth highest scorer in Ligue 1 of the 21st century at just 22 years old.

Mbappe scored 112 goals in the French league, while the Swedish Ibrahimovic scored 113 goals. Edinson Cavani of Uruguay tops the list with 138 goals.

Paris Saint-Germain leads the standings with 27 points from 10 matches with OM in third place, 10 points behind but with a game in hand.

But OM coach Jorge Sampaoli believes OM can cause discomfort.

“I cannot consider that the title is in the portfolio of Paris Saint-Germain. It is true that they are consistent. But many things allow us to believe that we can also do something against them,” the Argentine said.

“We have to take advantage of the opportunities that we will have in this match as well. We have that hope, and so do the fans.”
